Research Position in Evolutionary Biology

One open (JRF/SRF/RA) Research position is available under CSIR sponsored project entitled “Cost of selection response to simultaneous selection on two divergent life-history traits in Drosophila melanogaster.” The selected candidate will be appointed at the appropriate level depending on qualification(s) and the salary/fellowship would be fixed as per CSIR as well as JNU norms. The appointment will be for an initial period of one year and may be extended on yearly basis for a further period of two years subject to satisfactory progress of the candidate. The candidates are required to attend an interview in JNU at their own cost. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview. Selection as JRF/SRF in this project does not entitle the candidate for a Ph.D. position in JNU. The position is purely temporary and the maximum duration is for 2 years.

Minimum Qualifications:

JRF: The candidates must have cleared CSIR-UGC NET/GATE and completed M.Sc. in Biological Sciences with at least 55% marks.

SRF: (i) M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, and (ii) at least 2 years post M.Sc. research experience as evidenced by publications in standard refereed journals.

Research Associate: Doctorate (in Biological Sciences) or equivalent degree

Candidates should have a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (or 60% marks) for General, 6.25 (or 55% marks) for SC/ST, 5.75 (or 50% marks) for physically handicapped (PH) candidates on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination and should also have qualified GATE/NET. Percentage of marks or CGPA shall be calculated taking the aggregate scored by the candidate in all years or as per the norms of the concerned university/Institute etc. A limited number of seats are available for officially sponsored candidates from the Govt. Department/P.S.U./R&D organisations with minimum of 2 years experience. GATE/NET is an essential qualification for all disciplines except for the following category of candidates:

i. Candidates holding M.V.Sc. / M.D. degree

ii. Foreign nationals

iii. Sponsored candidates from Public/Private Sector undertakings, Government Departments and Research and Development Organizations.



General Instructions:

Details of eligibility, qualifications, availability of programme, admission procedure and other relevant information are available in the Information Brochure and also in the Institute’s website www.niper.gov.in.

Candidates appearing for final qualifying examinations (including NET-JRF) can also apply but they must produce final result on the day of Interview failing which their candidature shall be rejected.

Information Brochure cum Application form can be obtained in person or by post from the office of the Registrar, on submission of non refundable Bank Draft of Rs. 1000/-(Rs.500/- for SC/ST) payable at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali)/Chandigarh in favour of “Director, NIPER” along with two duly typed self-addressed Slips (10 cms X 6 cms). Indian nationals residing abroad and foreign nationals have to remit US$100 by Bank Draft payable to “Director, NIPER”. Payment by cheque/Postal Order will not be accepted. Candidates desirous of obtaining Information brochure by post should clearly mention name of the programme on the top of the envelope carrying the request letter.

Candidates will have to make their own arrangements for travel and boarding for attending test and interview.

Completed applications on the prescribed OMR form should be sent to Registrar, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, (NIPER), Sector 67, S.A.S.Nagar (Mohali), Punjab, 160062, (through speed post/registered post) so as to reach him on or before 4th May 2009. The Institute will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay. Applications received after the due date will not be considered. No correspondence/ inquiry in this regard will be entertained. The Institute shall not be held responsible for misplacement of any loose sheet. Therefore, all the applicants are required to submit the application form properly tied together.

Written test for all disciplines will be held on Sunday, the 5th July, 2009 and interview on Monday, the 6th July, 2009 at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali).
